The Griffons Women's Golf team continues to advance ahead in this weekend's tournament.

Senior Anna Bech Shooting 73 (+1) over par in her first round definitely helped the team move right along. Beach is sitting in a six person group that is tied for ninth place.

With all the first round numbers fairly low, the Griffons are off to a good start. Freshman Florence Phan also had a good first round finishing up at 77 (+5).

Following last week's tournament, the Griffons continue to advance in the rankings with a team score of 306 (+18).

Missouri Western is tied with Rogers State for eighth and sits just eight shots out of podium contention.

All five Griffons carded at least one birdie on the day, with Bech knocking in four. With the lower scores coming in, this will help the Griffons advance in the next round of this tournament. On Oct. 11, the women's team will finish up their current tournament.

Allycia Gan is sitting at (+2) and is leading the team in this round.

The Griffons are currently in 10th place overall and are trying to keep advancing upwards.

Men's golf was led by Jett Simmons. Simmons shot the low round of the day to move up two spots on the individual leaderboard, helping Western advance, beating rival Washburn.

The Griffons finished second at The Watkins Invitational. The Griffons posted a two-day card of 585 (299-286; +9) to outpace the Ichabods' 589 (298-291; +13). Simmons carded a three-under 69 on Tuesday to close with a two-day total of 142 (73-69; -2).

Simmons had a strong finish coming in at just (-2). The men's team will be at home on Oct. 11 and 12 to host The Holiday Inn Express Invitational.
