Missouri Western’s Track Team hit the West Coast in Azusa, California to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational over a two day period from April 14 to April 15.

This invitational was filled with Division 1 athletes from all around the country. Despite this, the Griffons were able to break running records and continuously finish with upper placements. 

Madison Nash was able to gain a provisional tally mark from the NCAA in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 35:17.50. Nash took seventh place out of the 64 runners.

In the men’s 5,000 meter run, Kayden Crigger placed 54th. Crigger became the first Griffon to break a 15 minute time in the outdoor 5k run. This was Crigger’s personal record as well. 

During the women’s open 800 meter run, Alexis Adams placed 37th out of 162. Adams had a time of 2:13.68. Teammate Paige Kvale finished in 103rd with a time of 2:17.66. 

Samuel Hydro finished 32nd out of 162 in the men’s 800 meter run. Hydro had an impressive time of 1:52.97. During another 800 meter run, Riley Gorham finished in the upper half of standings at 72nd out of 164. With placements like this, Missouri Western was consistent in shutting out the Division 1 schools.

In the women’s 400 meter dash, Aneesa Abdul-Hameed would take 29th out of 89. Abdul-Hameed finished with a time of 55.84.

On the men’s side of the 400 meter dash, Michael Smith finished in 33rd out of 100 and had a time of 48.70. Smith went on to compete in the men’s 200 meter dash where he placed 26th out of 101 with a time of 21.48

Five women competed in the 1600 meter relay. Abdul-Hameed, Adams, Kvale, Sherine Van Der Westhuizen and Jaida Steward took 19th out of 29 teams and had a finishing time of 3:57.52.

Two Griffons ran in the men’s 1500 meter run including Crigger and Hydro. Crigger finished in 106th out of 234 runners with a time of 3:56.28. Hydro finished in 148th with a time of 3:58.39.

In another men’s 1500 meter run, Gorham finished in 25th out of 239 runners. He had a time of 3:48.17.

Next for Missouri Western is the Midwest Classic on April 22 when they travel down to Emporia, Kansas.
